San Angelo ISD utilizes a computer system to track advance payments, free and reduced meal benefits, and cafeteria purchases. Below is information you need to know about breakfast and lunch services.

How the system works:

  • The student’s account in the computer will maintain the following information:
    • Account balance for advanced or prepaid payments.
    • The eligibility status of student. (How much the student or customer is to pay for a meal based on their approval level of free or reduced meal benefits.)
    • Tracks all purchases, advanced payments, and emergency charges made by the student.
  • Elementary students will access their cafeteria account by saying their name to the Cafeteria Manager at the end of the serving line.
  • Secondary students will access their cafeteria account by keying in their Student ID# prior to each cafeteria purchase on a ten key pad. ID numbers are assigned by the school office when students enroll in SAISD. Students must not share or reveal their Student ID number with others. It is important that students know their ID number is confidential and should only be used by them. If you suspect there is a problem, contact the Food Service office at 659-3615, so we may investigate the matter.
  • When advanced payments are received from a parent or student, the advanced payment is added to the student’s account.
  • When a meal is purchased by the student, the amount of the meal purchase is deducted from their cafeteria account.

Free and Reduced Price Meal Benefits:

  • Households must re-qualify for meal benefits every year
  • Free and Reduced meal applications are sent home with every student at the beginning of school.
  • Those families who want to apply for meal benefits only need to complete and submit ONE application per household
  •  Free and Reduced Price Meal benefits are posted directly to the qualifying student’s account.
    • This protects the identity of those receiving these benefits because it appears the student is using his account balance to pay for the purchases made.
    • Insures students are paying the correct price for their meals.
    • Meal benefits only apply to Meal purchases.
    • Advance or cash payment is required for a student to purchase AlaCarte items

Cafeteria Accounts

There are two (2) Accounts for each student:

General Account:

  • Money placed in this account (Account Balances) can be used to purchase meals and AlaCarte items.
  • Elementary AlaCarte items include extra food servings, milk, ice cream, and snack items available.
  • Secondary AlaCarte items include extra food servings, beverages, premium pizza, chicken sandwich, ice cream, and snack items available.

Meal Account (Limits student’s purchases)

  • Money placed in this account can only be used to purchase Breakfast or Lunch meals
  • Student Meal account balances can not be used to purchase AlaCarte items.

Advance Payment and Checks

  • Advanced payments can be made in any amount. - Parents can prepay meals for a week, month, semester, or send any dollar amount to fit the household budget.
  • Advance payments can be made using MyPaymentsPlus for a small transaction fee. MyPaymentsPlus is available 24 hours - 7 days a week.
  • Advanced payments can be made in the school cafeteria between 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. each school day.
  • Parents can send advance payments with their child.
  • Parents need to specify which account (General or Meal) they want the advance payment applied to.
  • Advance payments will be applied to the Student’s General Account when an account type is not specified.
  • We strongly encourage that advance payments be made with checks. The canceled check is your receipt for these advanced meals, and checks are traceable in our system.
  • SAISD school cafeterias will not cash personal checks. All checks made out to the cafeteria must be for the amount of purchase only, and will be applied to the student’s cafeteria account.
  • Secondary students who are paying for their daily meal purchases with a check will be required to enter their Student ID number.

Cash payments for Purchases:

  • Daily cash payments will still be accepted for cafeteria meal purchases.
  • All AlaCarte purchases may be paid in cash or require money to be on the General Account.
  • Secondary students paying cash will still be required to enter their Student ID number.

Charges:

  • We encourage parents to notify the cafeteria manger at their school if they are unable to pay for their child’s meal and need charge privileges.
  • Charging is only available for emergency situations and is restricted to meal purchases only.
  • Charging is not allowed for any AlaCarte purchases.
  • The ability to charge is limited and students may be served an alternate meal or denied charge privileges when their account balance is negative.
  • Parents are responsible for payment of any meal charges made by students

Account Balances - How do I know when to send money?

  • Parents can use MyPaymentsPlus to check on student account balances. MyPaymentsPlus is available 24 hours per day via the internet or by calling 800-961-6129.
  • Students will receive verbal notice from the cashiers when their account balance is low.
  • Students are responsible for notifying their parents.
  • Parents can contact the school cafeteria manager to check on their child’s balance between 7:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. or between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
  • Students can check with manager on their account balance.
  • Account balances at the end of the year will be forward to the new school year, or a refund will be issued with a written request from the parent.
